Abstract

In accordance with the STCW-78, the private and commanding staff of ship crews must have a certain knowledge and competence to perform the relevant professional functions.

Statistics show that the frequency of accidents and incidents related to groundings, collisions and spills is 0.03-0.07. The fact indicates that today a fairly high level of training of masters in the field of navigation and ship management has been achieved. At the same time, the frequency of incidents during processing and cases of poor-quality cargo transportation are estimated at 0,42-0,35. The paper discusses the issues that need to be considered in the courses «Technologies of cargo transportation» to improve the theoretical training of future captain's assistants and the formation of their competencies in the field of cargo handling, placement and transportation.
